Setting up Skill Development Lab(Industry 4.0 Laboratory) on Industrial Electronics & Automation
Modern industries are equipped with latest state of art digital technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Collaborative Robotics. Best utilization of technologies can give advantage on maximum productivity with minimum use of resources. To match the skill of Human Resources with latest Industry 4.0 technology, a well equipped Laboratory need to be established. Following are the features and infrastructure that can be included as part of Skill] Development Laboratory.
Structure Overview of Lab:
Various sections under a modern Industry 4.0 Laboratory has been indicated in below picture. Skill set that can be acquired from each section and required infrastructure are given in subsequent sections. It is proposed to establish the Labs in Phase manner.
Embedded Electronics Lab
Relevance to Industry: Troubleshooting of electronics circuit installed across various plant and machinery, developing alternative electronics solution as a contingency against failed components.
Skill Set to be Developed: Troubleshooting Basic and Embedded Electronics Circuit, Developing Electronics Circuit for various Industrial applications like IO Board, Sequential Relay, Timer Board etc.
Required Infrastructure:
Workbench with facility to design, fabricate and test basic and embedded electronics circuit.
Electronics Circuit Designing Software.
PCB Fabrication Workbench
Benchtop Equipment for Test and Measurement.
Microcontroller/Evaluation Board Programming Setup.

Instrumentation Lab:
Relevance to Industry: Instrumentation is the basic process control in industry where variables like temperature, flow, level, pressure, and distance can be sensed simultaneously. Instrumentation lab combines both hardware and software facilities to check, calibrate and repair the instrument.
Skill set to be developed: Application, Configuration and Tuning of Various Measuring Instruments, Actuators and Process Control, Instruments.
Required Infrastructure:
Instrument Test Bench with various Process Instruments (Pressure Transmitter, Temperature Transmitter, Differential Pressure Transmitter, Magnetic Flow Meter, Radar Level Transmitter, Ultrasonic Level Transmitter, Flow Meters, Load Cell, Weighing System & Weigh Feeder, Gas Analyzers)
Electrical Measuring Instruments (Digital Multifunction Energy Meter, Current & Voltage Measurement)
Set of Various Actuators (Pneumatic, Motorized)
Process Control Simulator with Cascaded PID Controller.

Mechatronics Lab
Relevance to Industry: Troubleshooting of Electro-Mechanical Equipment installed across various plant and machinery, developing mechatronics solution to improve the various process in Plant.
Skill Set to be Developed: Working with Integrated Electro- Mechanical Equipment.
Required infrastructure:
Electro-Pneumatic Test Bench.
Electro-Hydraulic Test Bench.
Motion Controller and Servo Axis Control Simulator (Software Setup).
Servo and Variable Frequency Drive and

Networking Lab
Relevance to industry: Troubleshooting of network installed across various plant and machinery, developing network Configuration to improve the existing networking system using across plant.
Skill Set to be Developed: Skill to Create and troubleshoot Computer Network, Ability to Identify and Bridging Security Gap in Network and Application.
Required infrastructure:
Network Soft Simulator.
Hardware to create secure network (Layer 2&3 Switches, Router, Firewall etc.)
Network Sniffing and Analyzing Tools.
Reference infrastructure Provider: Hewlett- Packard Company (HP), Cisco System, IBM networking.
Basic Data Science and Ai Lab
Skill Set to be Developed: Handling of Large Process Data, Developing Software Tools to Analyze data, Creating Artificial Intelligence and Models on Data to generate Actionable Information. Skill on Data Modeling based on Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision and Cognitive Science.
Required Infrastructure:
Test Data Source and Primary Processor (Sensor, PLC, HMI).
Database Software (Oracle, SQL).
Model Development and Evaluation Platform (Python, R ect.).
Visual Output Development Studio (Web Development, App Development, Notification API etc.)
The above Labs are proposed to be established in Phase 1.
Automation Lab
Relevance to Industry: Troubleshooting of Automation system installed across various plant and machinery, developing new programming logic to improve the existing process in plant. Migrating the various manual process to automated process.
Skill Set to be Developed: Working with Programmable Logic Controller, Human Machine Interface.
Required Infrastructure:
Programming Logic Controller (PLC) Simulator with Programming Software,
Human Machine Interface (HMI) Simulation Setup with Software
Reference Infrastructure Provider: Siemens Ltd, ABB Ltd, Rockwell Automation, Hitachi, Yokogawa, Honeywell
Communication Lab
Relevance to Industry: Troubleshooting of Communication system installed across various plant and machinery, configuration of automation system communication, developing communication between automation system to various electronics & instrument equipment's.
Skill Set to be Developed: Establishing Data Communication Between PLC, HMI and Field Devices on various Communication Protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet, OPC etc.)
Required infrastructure:
Separate Testbench for each Communication Protocol comprising of Communication Nodes.
Data Sniffing & Analyzing Device and Software.
